Izzy

New pic of our Izzy. Can you tell she was happy about me disturbing her nap? LOL Kev went to the allergist & found out his #1 allergy is dog :( We're looking at possibly needing to have someone keep her short-term until his asthma is under control.

More updates

Kyra has an appt with the allergist for testing on January 4th and Olivia has an appt with a dr @ Children's that specializes in sleep disorders and pulmonology for February 2nd - she also has her regular 6mth check-up with the Cardiologist on Feb 17.

Kyra's repeat CBC results

Essentially no change, so to rule allergies 100% out, he's sending us to an allergist and then we'll go from there.  Her Eosinophil count is still high, so we need to get to the bottom of things - allergies are step 1.  She has been on allergy medication, but possibly not enough or long enough.

Livy's 2nd sleep study

Well, we went in for sleep study #2 last night.  We had it confirmed that she DOES still have central AND obstructive sleep apnea :(  Supposedly having her tonsils and adenoids taken out would take care of the obstructive, but apparently not.  However, she is having more central episodes.  The nurse said the stridor breathing she does at night is highly unusual and in her 20+ yrs of experience in respiratory and sleep, she's never seen anything like it - especially in someone without any known respiratory issues.  She was shocked to hear that it was a 'good' night for Olivia - she said she honestly couldn't imagine it being worse.

So, we spoke to her primary doc this morning and are waiting on a referral to Children's Hospital Pulminology department and then we go from there.  The sleep tech said there were a few options, but without knowing what's causing her issues she had no idea what they'll want to do with her.  She said the possibilities are meds, low levels of oxygen, and/or CPAP.  Because of the holidays, we probably won't have the official results until after the first of the year and who knows how long until they get her in.

We're rich!!!!

True story ;)

A rich man is one who when his pockets are empty his children fill his arms.

Great news!

I've been having some ongoing health issues, but got some great news last week!  We've known since May '06 that I had a tumor on my liver.  Well, we had it rechecked and the scan showed my liver was enlarged and the tumor was slightly bigger.  I was referred to a gastro who did a better MRI.  The results led him to believe that it is NOT cancer, just a cyst of some sort!  Follow-up scans every 6mths-yr is what we're doing for now to monitor it.

Bruno's

As reward for medaling in Cross Country, Kevin had promised Ariana we would take just her out to a nice restaurant.  We decided to take her to our favorite Italian restaurant in Springfield, Bruno's.

Saturday, after Olivia's soccer game, the most wonderful in-laws in the whole world went shopping with us and then took the other kids back to their place, and we headed to Bruno's for an early dinner.

Here is what we had:

Ariana - Galletto Arrosto al Mattone con Scalogni e Patate

Kevin - Bucatini alla Matriciana

Melanie - Gnocchi di Ricotta e Spinaci con Burro alla Salvia

Dessert - Triple chocolate mousse cake, chocolate gellato & key lime pie

Robot Girl

Apparently, someone at school was asking Olivia about her pacemaker. She was telling them all about it and then told them she would need surgery again in about 5 years because of the battery. He was all, "You have batteries INSIDE you?!?" She said 'yes' she did and then he said "Like a robot?" Her response, "Yes. I. am. a. robot! (rotfl) He says, "Oh, is that why you're so smart?" "yes, yes it is"

Funny girl! <3

College life

So far the college life is going well.  I don't like being gone from the family two nights a week and having to devote nearly all of every weekend to homework, but this too shall past :)

Kevin & the kids have been GREAT!  It's been good for them to have some 'daddy' time.  Dr. Mom has done a wonderful job holding down the fort and making things as easy as possible for me.  I sure do appreciate all of them <3

I found out last night that I got 100% on my first assignment!  So, I'm pretty stoked about that.  It was also neat that the professor responded to my assignment with, "Great work!  Are you sure you shouldn't be training for counseling instead?"  I thought I'd included my plans to go for my Master's in Counseling once I receive my Elem Ed degree, but I went back and read my introduction & I had not.  Pretty cool.

Kyra lost her first tooth!!

Kyra lost her first tooth early Saturday morning. :D

She was SO excited!  Emma, on the other hand, was not so excited.  She'd wanted Kyra to wait until her tooth got looser, so they could lose them at the same time (they had the exact same tooth loose).  But, alas, Kyra's came out first.  Emma's is probably a few days behind :)

Our vacation

I'm posting some pictures of our trip to Texas at the end of July :)

Health updates

Miss Kyra visited her pediatric neurologist at St Louis Childrens last month and things are looking great!  The mass is still there, but a bit smaller and is no longer causing her spinal cord to curve out!!  The mass does make her more prone to headaches and neck injuries, so there are certain things we try to avoid that can cause flare ups, but otherwise things look great!

Miss Olivia visited her pediatric cardiologist at St Louis Childrens this month and we're facing the possibility of another surgery.  However, it is a very minor one.  Because she's so active it sounds like her body didn't fully form a scar tissue layer around her pacemaker.  She's having some stabbing pains that are believed to be pulling on the scar tissue she does have and this is allowing the pacemaker to shift and move.  We're attempting to cut her activities down in hopes that the scar tissue will form, if it does not, they'll have to go back in and 'tack' the pacemaker down so that it stays in one place.

Mr. Harrison had his left ear tube removed on Aug 9th and has already had another silent ear infection and partial perforation.  We're waiting to hear from his ENT to see what the next step is, but I'm sure we'll end up replacing the tube.

Everyone else is healthy and well and we are SO thankful for that!!

I'm not the only one...

who is ready for back to school!  I just cannot believe how quickly the summer has flown by!  I've neglected my blog all summer so I have lots of catching up to do.  We made a return trip to Corpus Christi (as well as Port Aransas, San Antonio and Padre Island).  We had another AMAZING time and took lots of pictures that I will soon be sharing :)

Anyway, back to the subject.  School.  Yes, it's school time again.  Tomorrow is the first day and I just can't believe how quickly the kids are growing up!  This year I will have a 9th grader, 6th grader, 4th grader, two 2nd graders and a Kindergartener.  Yes, there will be tears shed.  Me, not them.

Back to School, Back to School....

to prove to Dad I'm not a fool!

Yes, that's right folks.  I'm going back to school!  It's been a long time coming.  It's so hard to believe that I've been out of school for 13 yrs now (boy, oh boy, do I feel OLD!!!)

I'm attending MSU WP and just enrolled for the fall semester.  I'm really excited and very nervous.

The classes I'm taking:

Introduction to Autism
The Language of Music
Fitness for Living
Intro to Psychology
Intro to Business (this one will change if my math class opens back up! It had one seat left and by the time we got to enrollment it was filled, but they are anticipating some drops)

The first step is obtaining my Associate of Arts in Teaching.  Then, I'll get my Bachelors in Elementary Education with an emphasis on Middle School and English. The final step will be to obtain my Masters in School Counseling.

2.5mths

I've neglected this place for 2 1/2 mths.  Sad.  So sad.

Let's try to do a quick recap:

Kyra & Emma turned 7 on April 16th!

May brought Mother's Day, Kevin's birthday, Ariana's 8th gr graduation, Kevin received his doctorate degree, and lots of other fun things.

So far in June we've done lots of fun 'summer' things (River, trips to Gpa & Gma's, 6 Flags, Grant's Farm, BBQs, picnics, etc) and celebrated Father's Day.

My health is finally improving and I've actually had several pain-free days!  Thank you, God!  I've been doing physical therapy twice a week and seeing the chiro and doing Shiatsu as needed.

We're really looking forward to our beach vacation next mth - only 29 days!!!
